MODELIZING: the art of window shopping: 09/25

What can I say about this collection, let me start with a rant about Marc Jacobs first. The rumors of him taking over Dior really get my goat to say the least. Not only does he have his own label that can go in any direction he wants [i.e. make it look like what you think you can do at Dior, people will still fanboy for it], but he's not the right choice. I have a long standing love/HATE relationship with Marc. I find myself hating [hence the caps] a lot more than loving. I think the industry lets him get away with total mediocrity and praises him no matter what. He earned his success but if no one ever calls him out on something bad, does it make it actually good?

This collection seems to have mixed reviews, which surprised me because I thought it was utter shit the moment I saw it. I do think it photographs better than it looks [no press/cameras being allowed backstage made this a runway only post] but it is totally the emperor's new clothes. Some of the pieces are okay but every single person in fashion should have called him out on the fake Prada F/W 11 pieces he put out and whatever awful thing they did to Caroline Trentini's hair. The cowboy boots have given me Margiela wannabe nightmares since I first saw them [seriously, wtf are those?] and the rest just seemed like he's been hitting the farms down south a bit too much. I preferred Marc by Marc more, even if it was pretty basic. I will give him credit on the great set/lighting design, the photos look amazing because of it. The man knows how to put on a show but some of that stuff even made the tiniest of bodies look chunky and ill fitting. If Kanye gets slammed for that [when he doesn't know better] Marc should be roasted for it.
