The holiday season isn't only about shiny shiny and lusty items. I'm a big believer in giving to those less fortunate and for the past 5 years Gucci has teamed up with UNICEF to do just that. This season the house teamed up with famous illustrator Michael Roberts to create a book and a collection showcasing characters from "Snowman in Africa" [Which I can't lie, got me really excited for a minute thinking it was a secret reference to Young Jeezy and my borderline obsession Gucci Mane.]
I was graciously invited to the event last week before I fled to the woods for my own Thanksgiving break and snapped up some of the stylish crowd, the artist, items, and of course the main display. 100% of the profit from this book is going directly to UNICEF and I hope everyone has the chance to call their local Gucci store and purchase a copy. So much better than last years tattoo mess UNICEF collection. Keep it up Gucci. Brrr.
This print is actually my favorite from all the items.
I've been to many events that have had cute cookies like these but honestly Gucci wins for the best tasting cookies ever. Usually they suck or just taste horribly but A+ to Gucci for the incredible tasty magic.
Waiting for Michael Roberts to sign the book...I love that Michael had a Santa beard on with his own cut out prints all over it.
Grace Coddington showed up to support her friend. She a bit camera shy but I stalked her anyways.
True story, the day before the event I was thinking about this Tom Ford for Gucci bag and how much I loved it but looking back at it now, it's not that great. Seeing it in person reminded me how great it was [again] and now I want it, again.

ReplyDeleteWOW. I have chills: you & I have an almost identical photographic eye. If I had the fortune to be there, I'd have taken exactly the same shots. Have you noticed that? (I feel a bit like Joey in Friends, when he thought the Croupier in Vegas had the exact same hands!)
ReplyDeleteAnd also obviously, I feel the same way about the concept of giving.
And a third thing: having seen the September Issue on DVD here, my feeings about Grace are confirmed. I was so moved by her I was tempted to try to call her! Just dial Vogue and ask for Grace. I'd probably get her PA, at best, but I just wanted to tell her how much I like her.
Good on Gucci: it looks like a lovely book & makes an excellent Christmas present. Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving in the Woods, Julia!

ReplyDeleteLove Michael Roberts! Good for Gucci, these bags are so adorable, I hope they sell well. My favorite is the white bag with the monkeys on it.
